Hydrogen Selenide MSDS

What is Hydrogen Selenide?

Hydrogen Selenide is a metabolite of selenium and is a key intermediate in the selenium methylation metabolism of selenium compounds. Hydrogen Selenide is extremely flammable and can explode if heated under pressure. It can be fatal if inhaled and is very toxic to aquatic life, leaving long-lasting effects to the environment.

Hydrogen Selenide Exposure and Health Risks

Hydrogen Selenide is toxic and can be fatal if inhaled. Symptoms of Hydrogen Selenide inhalation include dizziness, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Bluing of the skin, irritation of the eyes and respiratory system, and chest pain are likely as well. Bronchitis and pulmonary edema can occur, resulting from respiratory irritation. In severe cases, central nervous system depression, hypotension, cardiopulmonary arrest, coma, and even death may occur. Dermal burns can result from direct contact.
