Dimethylamine MSDS

What is Dimethylamine?

Dimethylamine is an organic secondary amine. It is colorless, liquified, and flammable. Dimethylamine is abundantly present in human urine. As a pure substance, dimethylamine is used as a dehairing agent in tanning, dyes, soaps, and cleaning substances. It is also used as an agricultural fungicide. Dimethylamine is a weak base and is used as a precursor to many other significant compounds. Dimethylamine is extremely flammable and will explode if heated under pressure. It is also an irritant and is toxic.

Dimethylamine Exposure and Health Risks

Dimethylamine is toxic when inhaled. Whether short term exposure to high concentrations or long term exposure to low concentrations, dimethylamine inhalation will result in adverse health effects like organ damage. It is also an irritant and will cause severe burns to both skin and eyes. Symptoms of inhalation include irritation to the respiratory tract, sneezing, coughing, and difficulty breathing. It is toxic if inhaled, and will cause damage to the respiratory tract which could lead to pulmonary edema.
